Event Description
Who this event is for: Ages 5-12. Adult caregivers are required to accompany child participants. Due to the more focused nature of this event we ask that children and siblings outside this age group do not attend. What we’ll be doing: Join Seeds of Caring for an age-appropriate conversation about how to be an ally to immigrants and refugees. We will discuss the difference between immigrants and refugees, discover and share our family’s migration stories, and learn simple ways to support refugee and immigrant members of our community. Kids will also have the opportunity to paint welcome signs to be given to recently arrived refugees and immigrants.  Specific Instructions: We ask each family bring around $15 worth of donations for Welcome Kits given to incoming immigrants and refugees. Please refer to the following link to CRIS’s website for a list of needed items: http://www.crisohio.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/CRIS-Refugee-Welcome-Kits.pdf How to start at home: Check out these resources to get the conversation started at home:   Learn about CRIS and the services they provide: http://www.crisohio.org  Complete a family tree and discuss your family’s history of migration to the U.S. Use the following link for a free printable: https://www.scholastic.com/content/dam/teachers/lesson-plans/migrated-featured-files/tree.pdf Note: We will have families break into groups at the event to discuss their family’s migration story. Additional materials will be provided Why you'll be asked to pay a supply fee and donate:  On the next page you'll be asked to pay a fee to offset supply costs for this event. These fees are non-refundable. If you have to cancel your registration later, please know that your fee will go toward our efforts to create more meaningful service-focused programs for Columbus-area kids.  You'll also be invited to make a tax-deductible donation to Seeds of Caring. Every time we're able to design, coordinate, and offer an opportunity for kids to give back, it's because we have the support of families like yours. Please consider making a generous gift to help us continue to empower kids to create a kinder community with their hearts, hands, and minds.  Note: tax acknowledgment letters will be emailed after the event.   Note about full events: Check back for spots to become available at this event as cancellations occur. Seeds of Caring no longer maintains wait lists for full events.
